There are risks associated with every surgical procedure and Bariatric Surgery is no exception. Although relatively rare, these risks must be considered when choosing which procedure is right for you.
Risks of Sleeve Gastrectomy
Sleeve gastrectomy include but are not limited to the following:
- Death
- Staple line leak
- Damage to other organs while conducting the Sleeve Gastrectomy
- Bleeding
- Blood clots (deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism)
- Gallstones
- Myocardial Infarction (heart attack)
- Incisional hernia formation
- Infections (either wound or intraabdominal)
- Gastric ulcers
- Gastric strictures
- Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD)
- Vitamin and or mineral deficiency
- Intraabdominal adhesions (scarring) that can result in bowel obstruction
