What is the Spatz3 Adjustable Balloon System?

The Spatz3 Adjustable Balloon System is a non-surgical weight loss system. This innovative balloon is the world’s only adjustable gastric balloon, and it boasts the highest weight loss results and success rates. FDA Clinical Trials have shown that Spatz balloon patients lost five times as much weight as patients who tried to lose weight with diet alone.

The Spatz balloon is a small, silicone balloon that is placed into the stomach. It is filled with sterile, harmless saline, which causes patients to feel full more quickly and thus eat less. In the early stages of treatment, patients who experience discomfort or balloon intolerance may have the balloon size adjusted to make it more comfortable. If weight loss begins to stall, the balloon can be readjusted with more saline, which provides a greater fullness–jump starting further weight loss.

What Happens During The Procedure?

You will be placed under mild sedation to begin the process. From there, the deflated balloon is carefully placed with a flexible camera that is threaded down the esophagus and into your stomach. The balloon is then inflated with saline until it’s roughly the size of a grapefruit.

The procedure is fully-reversible and takes about 10-15 minutes. After eight months have passed, the balloon is removed from the stomach in the same way it was placed.

How Much Weight Will I Lose?

Because the balloon is adjustable, it can be adjusted downward initially to lead to greater balloon tolerance in more than 82% of patients, then slowly upward in order to ultimately lead to greater overall weight loss. Each adjustment takes only about 15 minutes.

The Spatz3 balloon can also remain in the stomach for eight months instead of the usual six, giving you a longer period of time in which to benefit from weight loss.

Significant weight loss was recorded in the clinical trials for the Spatz3 balloon. In the U.S. clinical study, the average amount of weight lost was 30 lbs. or 15% of their body weight. Motivated patients can lose much more weight with a comprehensive diet and exercise.

Who is an Ideal Candidate For Weight Loss With The Spatz3 Balloon?

Patients who haven’t had success with diet and exercise alone and are looking for a fully reversible procedure may be ideal candidates for the Spatz3 balloon. Candidates should meet the following requirements:

  • Have a Body Mass Index (BMI) of 30 to 40
  • Would like to lose 20-50 pounds
  • Have not had prior stomach surgery, such as hiatal hernia repair
  • Have not had prior  bariatric surgery, including: lap band, sleeve gastrectomy, or gastric bypass.
  • Are not using anti-inflammatory medications (such as aspirin or ibuprofen) daily
  • Are not pregnant or breastfeeding
  • Are motivated to lose weight and willing to make long-term lifestyle changes to sustain weight loss
