This can reduce the feeling of fullness after eating, and lead to weight gain after gastric bypass. This is why we offer the Restorative Obesity Surgery Endoscopic (ROSE) procedure, which involves no incisions or scars.

Have You Been Struggling With Weight Gain After Gastric Bypass Surgery, Regaining Some Or All Of The Weight You Initially Lost?

Your stomach pouch or stoma (the connection between the pouch and small intestine) may have stretched after your original surgery, reducing the feeling of fullness after you eat, and leading to weight gain after gastric bypass.

We now offer the Restorative Obesity Surgery Endoscopic (ROSE) procedure for patients that have regained weight after gastric bypass. This is an incisionless surgical procedure that restores the size of the pouch and stoma close to the original post-surgery proportions.

Using new surgical tools for gastric bypass revision, surgeons create and suture folds into the pouch to reduce its volume and at the stoma to reduce its diameter. The surgeon performs the procedure entirely through the mouth without making any external incisions into the body.

Due to the lack of external incisions, the revisional bariatric surgery known as the ROSE procedure is expected to provide important advantages, including, less risk than traditional open or laparoscopic surgery, minimal postoperative pain, fast recovery time, and no scarring. Avoiding weight gain after gastric bypass is vital to improve your health and reduce the co-morbidities associated with obesity such as Type II diabetes, heart disease, joint disease, and respiratory conditions. If you have started to regain weight since your initial surgery, ask your doctor about ROSE procedure gastric bypass revision.

ROSE Procedure for Weight Regain after Gastric Bypass

How Does Rose Work?

The ROSE procedure is performed using a four-channel tube and special Incisionless Surgery tools. The surgeon advances the flexible tube and a small endoscope through the patient’s mouth, into the gastric bypass pouch. The surgeon will then insert the surgical tools through the channels of the tube. Tissue anchors are used to create multiple tissue folds around the connection between the pouch and intestine, to tighten and reduce the diameter. This results in more restriction, and allows a patient to eat less and lose weight.

What are the Benefits Of Rose?

Because there are no external incisions during the ROSE procedure, this revisional bariatric treatment provides important advantages, including fewer risks than traditional open or laparoscopic surgery, minimal postoperative pain, fast recovery time, and no scarring. Patients notice that they can eat significantly less, due to the tightening of their gastric bypass pouch and stoma.

Is Rose for Me?

If you’ve had gastric bypass, you understand the importance of maintaining weight loss to improve your health and reduce the co-morbidities associated with obesity such as type 2 diabetes, heart disease, joint disease, and respiratory conditions. If you have started to regain weight since your initial surgery, this is not the time to give up.

The best thing you can do is speak to a doctor at New York Bariatric Group and find out more about the ROSE procedure for gastric bypass revision. Patients who were originally successfully losing weight following gastric bypass and now find themselves regaining weight may be ideal candidates for this procedure.

After an initial screening, you will undergo a series of evaluations including nutritional and dietary counseling, a full medical exam, and endoscopy to determine if you are a good candidate for the ROSE procedure.

How Long Will I Need To Stay In The Hospital After This Gastric Bypass Revision?

The length of your stay will be determined by your surgeon. You may be discharged the same day or your surgeon may want you to stay overnight. Your surgeon will make the determination following your revisional bariatric surgery.

What Are The Benefits Of An Incisionless Procedure?

By eliminating skin incisions, the ROSE procedure may provide important advantages to patients, including reduced risk of infection and associated complications, less post-operative pain, faster recovery time, and no abdominal scars.

What Type Of Side Effects Can I Expect?

It is anticipated that patients will feel little or no discomfort from the procedure. The most common reported side effect has been short-term sore throat.

Is it Safe?

As with any surgery there is risk involved. The ROSE procedure of gastric bypass revision is new and long-term data are not yet available. This less invasive approach should reduce the likelihood of many of the complications associated with the other open or laparoscopic revisional bariatric surgery procedures.

What is the Success Rate of Gastric Bypass Revision?

As with any weight loss procedure, results of gastric bypass revision vary with each patient. The ROSE procedure has been well tolerated and most patients experience weight loss as they eat less – with the return of the early feeling of “fullness” due to the restriction of the new, smaller pouch. The ROSE procedure is new, and long-term data are not yet available.

It saved my life.

The driving factor behind me getting my procedure was that I couldn't get up off the floor with my granddaughter. That was my why. That was my big reason for having this surgery done. After surgery, it was a little bit of a struggle with what to eat. What you put in your mouth that you don't even think about. You don't think about what you're eating or how you're eating and portion size. It's what I do now every single day. The procedure has changed my life in so many ways. It saved my life.
