Every surgical procedure has side effects associated with the procedure. Side effects occur in the majority of patients after surgery and may require changes in eating habits or the addition of vitamins or medications.
Adjustable Gastric Band Side Effects
Adjustable gastric band is associated with the following side effects:
- Difficulty eating protein that is too large or too dry- once we tighten the band so it will work, the lumen is much narrower than your normal stomach. You will need to make sure your protein is in small pieces, moist, and well chewed.
- Difficulty ingesting water easily- you will need to consume water more frequently but in small amounts to ingest what you need to avoid dehydration.
- Upper abdominal pressure or chest pressure - often caused by eating too fast.
