Risks of Laparoscopic Adjustable Gastric Band
Risks of The Lap Band include but are not limited to the following:
- Death-a rare complication
- Damage to other organs while placing the Lap Band
- Bleeding
- Blood clots (deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism)
- Myocardial Infarction (heart attack)
- Incisional hernia formation
- Infections (either wound infections, intra-abdominal infections, or infection of the lap band device itself)
- Gastric ulcers
- Intraabdominal adhesions (scarring) that can result in bowel obstruction
- Lap Band Prolapse or Slippage
- Pouch Dilatation
- Obstruction of the Lap Band from a large chunk of food
- Lap Band Erosion into the stomach
- Malfunction- leak of the band, port, or port line
