StomaphyX is a gastric bypass revision procedure that used to be offered to patients. A benefit was the procedure involved no incisions and minimal recovery because the procedure involved placing an endoscope through the mouth into the stomach pouch. The connection between the stomach pouch and small intestines was sutured resulting in food taking longer to be digested. When this happens, you feel full for longer. Because StomaphyX also made the stomach pouch smaller, patients would eat smaller meals. Dr. Shawn Garber was one of the first five surgeons in the United States to perform StomaphyX. Although the StomaphyX procedure worked initially, the long-term data began to show that the results of the procedure did not last. Because of this we stopped offering StomphyX to our patients.
