belly_short If you are morbidly obese and are looking for an effective and efficient way to lose weight quickly, lap band surgery may be an ideal choice for you. Cutting calories and doing sit-ups can only take you so far in your weight loss journey; oftentimes, weight loss surgery such as lap band treatment is necessary to help you to finally reach the finish line—the point where you look and feel better than you may have felt in years, or perhaps better than you have ever felt in your life.

lapband If you are trying to find a lap band surgeon who uses the most up-to-date techniques and technology, we at The New York Bariatric Group have accomplished surgeons who can help you to safely get down to your ideal weight.

Dr. Garber and Dr. Holover are on the forefront of this new technology and are looking at ways to apply this technology to maybe one day perform a bariatric surgical procedure completely endoscopically with no incisions at all.

Lap Band Surgery

The New York Bariatric Group can perform laparoscopic adjustable gastric banding as well as laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy and using the SILS technique.

Unlike standard laparoscopic surgery which uses 5 small incisions, Single Incision Lap-Band Surgery (SILS) is accomplished through one small incision in your umbilicus. It is accomplished with less pain, and little or no scarring. Since there is no need to cut through the stomach muscle, recovery is much shorter. The cosmetic results are amazing. Most patients have no visible scars after this form of surgery.

Lap Band Requirements

You must meet a few core lap band requirements in order to qualify for this type of procedure. First, you have to fall into one of the following categories: BMI of 40 Kg/M2-plus or BMI of 30 Kg/M2-plus with one or more medical problems related to obesity. These include, for example, joint pain, low back pain, acid reflux disease, severe arthritis, sleep apnea, type II diabetes, and high blood pressure.

You must also be 18 years old, and you must have attempted to lose weight several times in the past with just short-term success. In addition, you can only undergo the surgery if you are not suffering from another disease that might have caused your extra weight, and you cannot be pregnant, either. Drinking alcohol in excess will further disqualify you for this type of treatment. After the surgery, you must be committed to making major lifestyle and dietary changes in order to enjoy long-term results.
